Lately I have been very nostalgic. It's been a reoccurring wave of specific memories, very persistent. I had no intention of posting about them or really doing anything at all but suddenly, I felt compelled to bring them here.
When I was about 7, my parents owned a small business where people could come in and paint ceramics. Lots of kids had birthday parties there and we had a wall in the back where the birthday kid got to put their handprint and write their name under it. In the front of the store, there was a TV with our family's N64, a bunch of games, and plenty of controllers for whoever wanted to play. On the carpeted floor, there were two beanbag chairs facing the TV and I think there was a large potted plant to the left. I have vivid memories of being there at the end of the day, after all the customers were gone. The setting sun coming through the big windows. Pulling the cord on the neon "OPEN" sign to turn it off. The smell of Febreze and cleaning supplies.
I played Super Mario 64 a lot, as well as Banjo Kazooie. In Banjo Kazooie, I always went to Click Clock Woods so I could turn into a bee and fly around the tree in circles, listening to the music. I was really excited when an employee's son brought in Pokémon Stadium and Snap.
Everyone always had a really fun time at that place. I loved to interact with customers. I wanted to learn how to host the birthday parties and run the cash register but I was too little so I mostly just helped clean up and paint example pieces of ceramics. I kinda wish we didn't have to move away.
